The Transport for NSW analytics team has a mission to democratise transport data by providing a reliable, real time and robust big data ecosystem to support services design, delivery and management.   This includes utilising data to produce solutions for analytics reports, dashboards, predictive analysis, forecasting, machine learning, and root cause analysis, based on its own internal and external data.

Our work

Transport for NSW’s existing AWS platform had grown rapidly as a result of the ingestion of more and more data sources due following organisational mergers. In addition, the increased number of users accessing the system, and volume of self-service demands had added significant pressure on the existing system.

Transport for NSW required a detailed AWS architectural review to help inform future design, and ensure its data systems remained able to provide productive, scalable, and fast response analytical solutions to stakeholders.

A reconfiguration of the agency’s Big Data ecosystem was needed to support provision of both current and future analytics solutions, and to manage anticipated future compute and storage needs.

Maltem worked closely with Transport for NSW to identify the skills, functionality and infrastructure needed to best support current and future data handling and analytics needs, completing a full review of the organisation’s data infrastructure and analytics capabilities, and making recommendations on suitable design measures and approaches to optimise utility.
